DFW Sketch 027
Yes, I know, apparently this looks like one of the characters from Monsters, Inc. However, the resemblance was not intended, and I never saw that movie.

Rhino-Bird
This is the first in a series of chimeric creature sketches. A chimera is a monster made up of the parts of several different animals, although traditionally it had the head and body of a lion, with a goat head sticking out of its back and a snake for a tail (or a tail which ends in a dragon head). Although the lion head has a mane, they are traditionally thought of as female. One of my later DFW sketches is of a chimera, but you won't see that until much later this year.

At the Water Cooler
I've mentioned to a few people I'm making an ABC book for my son out of my sketches. This picture is a little bit more what the book will be like--animals in a shirt and tie--not the monsters I've been posting.

More Norse Mythology
These are two perennial favorites I also drew yesterday, Fáfnir and Fenrir. I wasn't really happy with how either of these turned out, but here they are anyway.

Yggdrasil
I drew this one today. This is Yggdrasil, the "world tree" of Norse mythology. The nine planes of existence are on the tree. At the top is the unnamed eagle, and at the bottom is Níðhöggr, the dragon who eats the roots of the world tree, and running between them is, of course, (as I'm sure you all are quite well aware) the squirrel Ratatoskr. Around the central plane, our world (Midgard) is the world serpent (or Midgårdsormen) Jörmungandr.
But I'm sure you already knew all of that.
