Metal Toddler

Ever since he was very little I've played good music when my son Lincoln is in the car with me. In fact, I played a lot of Opeth and Meshuggah for him while he was in the womb.I always ask him whether he likes the music, and at least 9 times out of 10 he says "yes."

One time, I changed CDs, and when the music started he spontaneously and excitedly growled, "Daddy music!"

If for any reason I'm not playing music in the car, he will tell me he wants to listen to "daddy music".

MechanizeMelissa (Reissue)So, to indulge my tiny metal monster, this week I started letting him select a CD when I pick him up from day care. He doesn't have much to go on--since I buy all my music online, the CDs are all burned, and even before that I always made copies and played the copy to avoid damage. So, all he has is the name, not CD art, and since he can't read it, it's pretty random. It gets him involved in it and enjoying it more, and so far, I'd say he's made some excellent choices. Yes, those are his picks.

The first time, it was my idea, but since then he's been asking me if he can pick the "daddy music".

You know, I just want him to have all the advantages in life, even the ones I didn't have--like an awesome selection of music and familiarity with all things metal.

He still has some trouble with the horns, but we're working on that.

  2. Indeed it is! I'm not sure any of them are ordinary toddler picks--it's not like they're Hevisaurus.
